As a child, Dr. Billmeyer loved going to the Mayo Clinic and learning about all the different diseases and treatments that were available. After completing medical school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he decided to pursue a career in medicine at the Mayo Clinic.
During his first few years at the clinic, he worked as a resident doctor and was able to gain experience in a variety of areas, including cardiology and oncology. In 2002, he became an assistant professor at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine three years later.
Since becoming an assistant professor, Dr. Billmeyer has continued to be involved in various aspects of medical care at the clinic. He is currently a member of the Cardiovascular Disease Treatment Group and is also involved in research projects related to heart disease and cancer. He is also a member of several other major treatment groups at the clinic.

Career as a Urologist:
I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. After graduation, I worked as a research fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
In 2006, I was offered a position as an assistant professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. In 2009, I was promoted to associate professor and in 2013, I became a full professor at the school.
In 2017, I accepted a position as the Medical Director for Men’s Health at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. This is my fifth position at Mayo Clinic and it is my second tenure as Medical Director for Men’s Health.
My clinical practice focuses on male reproductive health and urology. In addition to treating patients with traditional urological treatments such as prostate surgery and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), I also work extensively with male fertility clinics across the country to help men achieve successful pregnancies.
The Urologic Department at Mayo Clinic is one of the largest and most comprehensive urology centers in the world. We treat patients from all around the country and around the world, which has given me an opportunity to see many different aspects of medicine firsthand. My goal is to provide excellent care for my patients while educating them about their health and how they can improve it
How was Dr. Billmeyer selected as one of three finalists for the position in Omaha?
In early 2016, Dr. Billmeyer was notified that she had been selected as one of three finalists for the position of medical director at the Mayo Clinic in Omaha, Nebraska. The position was open due to a retirement announcement from the previous medical director and had been vacant for over a year. After careful consideration and several interviews with other top clinics, Dr. Billmeyer decided that the Mayo Clinic was her dream job and decided to take the offer.
Since joining Mayo Clinic in late 2016, Dr. Billmeyer has quickly become a key figure in the organization. She has worked extensively on revamping and expanding the clinic’s clinical programs, including working on creating a new division focused on heart health and chronic diseases. Additionally, she has made significant changes to how the clinic communicates with patients and their families, which has resulted in an increased satisfaction rate among patients.
Looking back on her journey so far, Dr. Billmeyer is thrilled with how things have turned out. She credits her faith in God as well as her own hard work for helping her make it to where she is now at the Mayo Clinic.”
Why did Dr. Billmeyer choose to go to the University of Minnesota instead of the Mayo Clinic?
When Dr. Billmeyer was deciding where to go to medical school, the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota were both top contenders. However, after visiting both campuses and talking to professors and students, he chose the University of Minnesota because of its smaller size and its focus on community health. He believes that this hands-on approach will give him the ability to work closely with patients and their families, which is something that he values most in his practice.
Dr. Billmeyer also appreciates the University of Minnesota’s strong research program, which he plans to use to improve the care that he provides to his patients. In addition, he is excited about the opportunities for collaboration that are available at the university. For example, he is partnering with a group of doctors from other hospitals in order to study how best to treat heart disease.
