I’ve spent the past 20 years trying to figure out the purpose of life. It all started when I was in high school and had an existential crisis about why we’re all here, what the meaning of life was, and so on. Now that I’m older and hopefully wiser, I can finally say that I have come to some answers about the meaning of life—and it’s not what most people think! Read on for my personal story about how I discovered the meaning of life through meditation…
Why is finding meaning important?
When we do things that fulfill our inner purpose, it feels good. It’s a feeling I like to call gurulex—it’s that exhilarating sensation when you realize that everything you do matters. The sense of pride and accomplishment is unparalleled; but only if you have a reason for why you exist. Without purpose, life can feel meaningless, and become hard to bear. That’s where finding meaning comes in.
I want to find my purpose, what should I do?
Writing an overly-general question like I want to find my purpose, what should I do? sets you up for failure. The answer is too broad and vague. It can be helpful at times to ask yourself a broad question like that, but if you’re struggling to figure out what your purpose is, it’s best not to answer with another vague statement.
What if I don’t know how to find my purpose?
This question may be hard to wrap your head around, but look, here’s what it comes down to: How do we know that life has a higher purpose? It seems like common sense, right? But think about it—what if there isn’t a reason why we are here? Is that scary or liberating? Does it mean everything is random and pointless or does it mean there are no rules? Imagine a world where each person gets out of life whatever they put into it. What would you choose as your personal meaning then? What would you create with your time on earth instead of worrying about whether anyone else thinks you’re doing things right? If meaning were entirely in our own hands, what would you do with yours?
What if there isn’t a reason?
We are biologically wired to find meaning in our lives. And so, when we don’t know why we’re here, we tend to conclude that there is no meaning. But what if there isn’t a reason? Is it possible that life has no purpose? I guess it depends on how you define meaning. What about purpose? When I look back at my life and consider all that I have experienced—the good, bad and ugly—I can certainly say that my time on earth has had purpose. That might not be true for everyone, but it sure was true for me
Don’t forget your purpose once you have it
A good place to start is by taking a few minutes each day and think about how you can make our world a better place. This can be as simple as starting up a recycling program at work or volunteering time at your local animal shelter. However, it’s important to realize that big decisions sometimes have small consequences. Choosing not to litter doesn’t seem like a big deal but doing so helps save our planet from pollution and preserves clean drinking water for us all. In other words, something as simple as picking up after yourself is one less piece of trash making its way into our natural environment and making our planet an even better place than it already is.
How can we make this world a better place?
With so many people having trouble finding meaning in their lives and with so much suffering taking place every day, it’s easy to ask how we can make our world a better place. The simple answer is that we should help those in need. If you want to be happy, go help other people be happy too. You don’t have to save anyone or change someone’s life; just helping someone do something easier or making someones burden lighter will make you feel fulfilled as well. So if you’re trying to find purpose, just be good and kind. Then see what happens next!
Final words.
Dear reader, it’s impossible for me to know what your personal journey is like. I can only share with you what my own personal journey has been like. From when I first started thinking about life’s bigger questions to how that eventually became a reason I wanted to help others reach their full potential – as an entrepreneur and author. I have always wondered why we are here on Earth and have spent many years seeking out answers to that question. Along with discovering what we are here on Earth, it is also important that we discover how we fit into our Universe – where did it come from? Why do things happen? And what exactly do things mean? Have you ever asked yourself these questions? If so, then perhaps you should consider looking into some of my other articles.
